Rule 41 of my recent book is called "If You Only Follow One Rule, Follow This One". It offers one key precept: "You must have a clear strategy for your web presence at all times."
Having a clear strategy means knowing what you want to do, and setting measurable goals so that you can evaluate success. Every expert that I talked to for my research recommended careful thought before implementing any course of action - and then ongoing and detailed testing to discover what's working, and what you need to adjust or discontinue.
Ultimately, you must know what you're trying to achieve with your web presence. Why are you spending money on it? Could it be generating more leads and revenue than it does? Do you have processes in place to determine your return on investment?
Failure to establish your strategy can lead to expending resources to little or no avail, to being overtaken by the competition, or to resorting to firefighting instead of planned implementation.
There's a lot to think about. And that's where I can help.
